Welsh Assembly Members back Edwina for leader

Edwina Hart says she’s tremendously encouraged by the strength and enthusiasm of Assembly Member colleagues who want to see her become the next Leader of the Welsh Labour Party and with it the office of the First Minister of Wales. Eight Labour AMs have now publicly agreed to support her campaign and they explain their reasons in the latest video on her campaign website.

The list is headed by Finance Minister Andrew Davies  (Swansea West) - her campaign manager, supported by: Janice Gregory (Ogmore); Christine Chapman (Cynon Valley); Val Lloyd (Swansea East); Sandy Mewies (Delyn); Jeff Cuthbert (Caerphilly); Rosemary Butler (Newport West) and Gwenda Thomas (Neath).

“I was very pleased that so many of my most experienced and respected colleagues have agreed to back me once they knew that I wanted to stand,” said  Edwina Hart. “ In order to deliver a Labour programme in the Assembly which will address the concerns and aspirations of the Welsh people as a whole I need to have the backing of a strong team of like-minded friends and supporters in the Assembly to achieve this and the fact that my colleagues have come out so quickly and so publicly has added momentum to my campaign.”

In the video her supporters repeat the campaign message “I Hart” and each of them gives a different reason for doing so. The video also encourages supporters to get involved by sending in their own "I Hart" videos via the campaign website.

Now that the leadership campaign is fully under way Edwina Hart will be updating her message regularly, stressing that her record on health, finance and social justice shows that she can deliver and that of the three candidates she has the widest range of ministerial experience to get the job done.
